Royal Society Working Group chair presents award to data.bris project

The University of Bristol’s data.bris project was award joint Best Poster by a panel of judges led by Professor Geoffrey Boulton FRS, Chair of the Royal Society Working Group responsible for the report on Science as an Open Enterprise. The prize was given at Jisc’s Managing Research Data Programme Achievements, Challenges and Recommendations workshop at Aston Business School, Birmingham, 25-26 March 2013. In presenting the prize, Professor Boulton teased the project team for producing a poster about, “how successful they’d been”. In truth the poster was a celebration of achievements; the team saved all the challenges and recommendations for their presentations.

As part of the “Business Cases and Plans for Sustainability” session, Stephen Gray (data.bris Project Manager) gave a presentation, “Getting RDM Support Funded“, telling the Bristol story from conception to funded university research data support service and all the flag waving, diplomacy, setbacks and accomplishments along the way. Later, in the “Data Repositories, Portals and Institutional Systems” session, Simon Price (data.bris Project Director) gave a presentation, “Institutional data portals and data sharing: systems are the easy bit“, on the non-technical issues surrounding the development of the University of Bristol’s research data systems.
